Selecting the right size rug
Determining the right size rug for your living area is key, this is just as important as choosing patterns and colours. Both the size and shape of your chosen rug can define your living space. It’s important to keep the size of configurations in the living area in mind as well.
Living room
Option 1:
For smaller living spaces try using a 1.5m x 2.4m to 1.8m x 1.7m rug. The front of your rug should end a few centimetres before you couch or resting the front legs of your furniture on the rug. If you decide to place a coffee table on the rug, be sure that all four legs can rest on the rug.
Option 2:
Larger living spaces require larger rugs that are between 2.4m x 3m – 2.7m x 3.6m. Place the front legs of your furniture on the rug. We recommend leaving about 45cm – 60 cm on all sides of the rug, thus creating a border frame.
Option 3:
If you have furniture items standing around in your living space, rather use a 2.7m x 3.6m rug. Ensure that an equal amount of floor space is left on all sides. All furniture in the living space should sit comfortably on the rug without feeling cramped.
Dining room
When choosing a rug for the dining room, ensure that it is large enough to hold all chair legs, even when pulled out. Either round or square rugs are usually used in this living space.
Bedroom
Place the rug so that the longer side is parallel with the headboard. The bed should rest halfway across the rug.
